York Marathon 2026. Mark and Pete compete.

By Mark Williamson.
It was that time of year for the Yorkshire marathon.
And as I’ve been fortunate to run all the previous ones I couldn’t break tradition.
This year was the 13th one so what could possibly go wrong.
Sadly this year Hornsea Harriers only had two running the marathon, Peter and myself.
We both had different race strategies and only saw each other on the drive up and back home. We still had support from Clair Liz and Wendy around the course though.
Having VIP treatment I left Pete to the blue portaloo’s and fresh air and made my way inside to the luxury toilets, tea, coffee and croissants laid on.
I wouldn’t see him now till the journey home.
I wanted to have a bit of fun so Mr.Potato Head made an appearance and I would see how I got on…I really wanted a sub 3:30.
The weather was kind of perfect and as the starting pistol went off we got going…two miles in and I was running at 3 hour pace so I thought let’s just see how it goes.
Come half way and I clocked 132:18 it’s at this point the wheels kind of fell off.
I began to stop at water stations to walk and take on water which made it difficult to keep momentum.
I tootled on towards the finish where I saw Clair, Liz and Wendy which gave me the lift for the finish straight. It’s not the time I had aimed for but very pleased to finish on 3:34:36.
Another Yorkshire Marathon taking my tally to 128 official marathons.
Results for Harriers were as follows;
Position | Runner | Category | Time |
1559 | Mark Williamson | MV55 | 03:34:36 |
2961 | Peter Hardy-Cork | MV50 | 03:58:43 |
